Ihave a 2004 Fabia fitted with a 100bhp (74kW) BBZ engine which follows the QG0 service schedule. This is the 16v DOHC petrol unit. My dealler recommended that I should change the belt at 40,000 hours or 4 years. My manual states 80,000 miles, and my Haynes manual states 60,000 miles, without any time limit.

Whendo I need to change my cambelt? Usually, you should replace your cambelts (or ‘timing belts’) between 40,000 and 100,000 miles. Although, if your car has especially low mileage, the 4-5 year mark is a good time to replace the cambelt too. However, these general guidelines are just that: ‘guidelines’.
Thanksfor the detailed post. My concern was why the 1.8 TSI engine has been excluded for the replacement intervals and only the 2.0 TSI versions are mentioned. The chain and other hardware must be similar in both. Been servicing my TSI at 10K intervals since last 2 services and maintaining oil above halfway mark at all times.
bryetian The quote of £500 is the standard Skoda dealer charge for changing the cam belt on a diesel engine. They would normally suggest changing the water pump at the same time as it is driven by the cam belt and exposed by the work to get at the cam belt. That would add £100 to the bill.
Ihave a Polo 1.2 TSI and have been trying to work out the chronology of when and where the different chain and tensioner types cut-in. For the Polo: They originally rolled out of the factory with 03F 109 158 B ( The chain that was made out of cheese! ) Shortly after that it was updated to 03F 109 158 K ( this was just an update, better 23K views 5 months ago. 🔧 Learn how to replace the timing belt and water pump on your Skoda Superb with this easy-to-follow, step-by-step guide! Its Skoda UK who have been peddling the 4 year (and now 5 year) timing belt replacement interval con. As do their parent, VAG UK. So the only answer you will get out of them is 4 years for older cars, 5 years for newer, none of which is applied by any other VAG importer in any other country in Europe, 4/5 year belt change is a genuinely local

Theup forum has the 160k info. 4 year intervals was the standard Skoda recommendation before the introduction of these new generation engines and has clearly not changed. Perhaps the dealers are not aware of the new technology? As for camchains - there have been some problems with these even though there is no change interval.

Solooking like it is nearer 210,000km (about 130,000 miles) No specific time interval, but supposed to be inspected at major services for wear which will guide, and estimates seem to be 10-15 years, so let's use about 12 years as prediction. Slightly over double the old suggestion of 5 years or 60,000 miles. .
